Canton Texas Trade Days

Our trip to Canton Texas Trade Days ~ November 28th - November 30th!

This is the place to go if you feel like shopping to you drop!!! This was my first trip to Canton so it was a little over whelming for me!!!

We stayed on "The Mountain"! There is so much to see and do on "The Mountain"! If you are thinking mountain like mountains in Colorado your wrong! Giants Fan if you are thinking mountain as in Stone Mountain that is not the case! What we in Texas call a mountain is not necessarily a mountain! I didn't see a peak. I couldn't see forever and ever and ever away once I hit the top! Don't get me wrong this mountain was steep!!! I know!!! I walked it up and down and all around numerous times!!! More times than I really wanted to!!! There are a ton of things to do and see on the mountain!!! You walk from shop to shop to shop and just shop!!! You can eat on the mountain! We ate at a really yummy steak house about 40 yards away from our cabana! This steak house is only open on Saturdays! I highly recommend marching all the way up the mountain to eat there! It's worth the money and the walk! I'm glad we were staying so close! They might have had to roll me down the hill!!! =)

The map above shows the roads around the mountain!!! These aren't real road because you can't drive up them in a car! At least not on trade day weekends! The only thing I seen go up and down the mountain were people, golf carts and the Lone Star Express (Train Rides)

The place we stayed was on the top of the mountain! It was called The Palm Cabanas! It was a cute and very unique place! The owner was as friendly as could be! The pictures I took will show all! lol

Mr. "S" and I stayed in the Zebra Room! When we talked in Mr. "S" asked me if I was going to be Jane in return I asked him if he was going to be Tarzan!

Our bathroom! The walls were covered in zebra print tissue paper! I've seen this done on Trading spaces! It was really cute! My camera didn't do the bathroom justice!!!

Now on to the shopping!

Friday afternoon when we arrived in Canton, checked in our Cabanas and let the rain slake off a bit we were ready for some REAL shopping at the Old Mill Market Place! See the above map! We hit all the shops in red! The long red markings are the 7 covered pavilions we walked! As you can see we didn't make it to see all the vendors! There was so much to see and do and not enough time in the day! After we shopped till dropped and it was dark we grabbed a bite to eat and walked The Mountain shops because they stay open late!

We also came across Karaoke were we pulled up a chair and stayed a while!

Canton Trade Days

I didn't take any pictures of the shopping, the food or the pavilions! It was sooooooooooo over whelming! It was packed! It was crazy! It was like something I've never seen before! People warned me! I was in awwwwwww over all the different things the vendors had! I can't get over how crafty some people are! It amazes me! I seen some of the coolest things ever! If I ever have a little girl I'm going back to Canton to decorate her bedroom!!!! It was about as Fru Fru as you could get!

Mr. "S" and Mona were very very sick on Saturday! Mr. "S" was suffering with a bad cold and Mona was suffering from a horrible stomach virus! So we cut out early on shopping! The rest of the group continued on! They shopped till close which was around 5:30pm! They arrived back at the Cabanas a little after dark!

My High School Volleyball Coach (I will call her Coach "W") showed up to hang out with us! I haven't seen here in years (I'm guessing since 2000 when a group of us took a road trip to Tyler, Texas)! I stay in contact with her through email and cards! She lives very close to Canton so I warned her we will be there for the weekend! She gladly came over to hang out! She said normally locals run away from Canton this time of year because of the traffic and shopping madness (I could see why)! lol

That is our trip to Canton Texas Trade Days! I will do another post about the goodies we bought!

Just one word...

Funny - I was driving to work this morning and seen a cop with his lights on so I slowed down thinking he had someone pulled over! When I passed the cop I noticed he was outside his car trying to get a cow to go back in it's fence! The cow was happily grazing the grass along side the freeway minding her own business! If I have time to spare I would have taken a picture!

Sick - I've drove myself to work the last two days because Mr. "S" has been home sick! I mean sick! He never misses work! Never! He started getting sick on Friday! Needless to say he was sick the whole time we were out of town! The Canton trip wasn't very exciting for him!

Photographic - The frost on the ground this morning was just beautiful! I drove past pasture after pasture on my way to work wanting to stop and take a picture. This was our first real frost of the year!

Excited - I was on the phone last night with Mr. "S" mom! She was telling me about the place we are going to stay when we go to Ohio! She is renting us rooms for one night so all the family can get together, relax, hang out and have some fun! I'm soooooooooooooooo freaking excited!!! Check it out ~ Click HERE! Party - Thursday night is my companies Christmas Party! We are going to the Saltgrass Steak House!!!

Parade - Tonight is the Annual Christmas Light Parade! I'm going to miss it since Mr. "S" is at home sick! I need to go home and tend to my patient! Each year we stay after work, order pizza and wait for the parade to pass by our office! I think it gets better and better each and every year!

Cards - I bought my Christmas Cards last night! If you want a Christmas Card from me email your info to musingsfromleftfield[at]yahoo[dot]com! This will be the first year in a long, long time that I've sent cards out! I would LOVE to send you a Christmas Card! I've met soooooooo many wonderful blog friends from all over!

Tree - I'm hoping we put up our Christmas tree this weekend!

Chex Mix - I want to make this soooooooooo bad! I read about it HERE & HERE! YUM-O!

Durango - Something is sooooooooo wrong with the front end of my Durango? It bounces me all over the place - it's totally uncontrollable! I need a new car! I just don't want the car note that goes along with it!

Smart Car - We saw a Smart Car in Canton! Mr. "S" wants a Smart Car! I was shocked that we could even fit in it!

I signed up for Julie's Ornament Swap for the 2nd year in a row!!! I'm soooooooooooooooooo LOVING my swap partner The First of Six!!! She sooooooooooo knows what I like!!! =)

1. Which do you like better:
Hosting Thanksgiving at your home or going elsewhere?
I've only hosted Thanksgiving once and that is a L-O-N-G story! We always go to my Nanny's for Thanksgiving! That is where we will be tomorrow! I'm hoping to start a new Thanksgiving tradition next year! I'm thinking of hosting Mr. "S" b-day party and a friends/family Thanksgiving the same weekend! I want to incorporate Leigh's Family Turkey Toss into our new Family Tradition!!!

2. Do you buy a fresh or frozen turkey? Organic? Free-range?
The year I hosted Thanksgiving I bought a frozen turkey! I'm guessing the turkey we eat on Thanksgiving at my Nanny's is a frozen turkey as well?!?!

3. Do you make stuffing or dressing? What kind?
I don't make the stuffing my mom does and it is the BEST ever! It's a Southern Cornbread Stuffing with lots of chicken, onions and celery in it! I really need to learn how to make this! When I say it's the BEST ever! It is! Take my word for it! I can't to chow down on it tomorrow!

4. Sweet potato pie or Pumpkin pie?
I like them both! I also love my Nanny's coconut pie and pecan pie!!! I have to tell you about this restaurant called Pappadeaux they serve a Sweet Potato Pecan Pie and let me tell you from many years of experience ~ it's heavenly!

5. Are leftovers a blessing or a curse?
I love, love, love leftovers! We always fight over my Nanny's candied sweet potato's! She makes the best! This year I won't be getting many leftovers since we are leaving out of town Friday morning for Canton!

6. What side dishes are a must-have in your family?
My Nanny's candied sweet potato's, green bean casserole, potato salad, my mom's southern cornbread dressing and don't forget the cranberry sauce! YUMMERS!

7. What do you wish you had that might make Thanksgiving easier?
I'm just fine with the way it is! Well, I wish Nanny's house was bigger so that we could all fit at one table! =)

8. If/when you go to someone else’s house for the holiday, do you usually bring a dish? If so, what is it?
I called my nanny yesterday to see if she needed me to bring anything and she said no! She has it all under control! In the past I've made the green bean casserole! I was thinking about making a cream cheese dip with wheat thins this year! Just something to snack on before the big meal!

9. What do you wish one of your guests would bring to your house?
I don't ever asking anyone to bring anything when they come over if they offer then I tell them to bring one of their favorite dishes!

10. What do you wish one of your guests would NOT bring to your house?
I don't know? Dumb question!

11. Do you stick with a particular menu from year to year, or do you mix it up?
I do not host Thanksgiving! My Nanny's sticks to the same menu each and every year!

12. Is Thanksgiving a religious or secular holiday in your home?
It's a holiday for our family to come together, enjoy each others company, eat lots of yummy food, watch the Dallas Cowboys play some Thanksgiving football and take naps!

13. Share one Thanksgiving tradition.
We really don't have one? Well, unless you want to call the Dallas Cowboy's our tradition! We watch them play every year!!!

14. Share one Thanksgiving memory.
The year I cooked my first turkey! It was a blast! Like I said, I'm not going to talk about it though! L-O-N-G story!

15. Name five things you’re thankful for.

*I'm so very THANKFUL and GRATEFUL to have Mr. "S" in my life! He is a WONDERFUL man!

*I'm so very THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for the house that we have! Yall know we have worked our butt off for it!

*I'm so very THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for the family that I have! We have our good days and our bad days but they are still my family and I will always love them!

*I'm so very THANKFUL and GRATEFUL to have a job with our crazy economy! I've been with my company for 11 1/2 years!

*I'm so very THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for the WONDERFUL friends I have in my life! Yall know who you are! Real life friends and blog friends!
